Jazz Maestro Melvin Peters started classical piano lessons at age six thanks to his father who encouraged and supported him. While studying towards a Bachelor of Music degree at UKZN he began jazz piano lessons under the tutelage of Darius Brubeck in 1983.
He completed a Masters Degree in Jazz performance and lectured at University of Durban Westivlle for ten years. Over the years he has performed with great musicians and artists.
At St Paul's Melvin's duties include playing the organ, training the choir, skills development as well as choosing suitable music for the congregation to sing. He says: "I strive to use music as a vehicle to connect with people from all walks of life, especially the disadvantaged.My primary objective is to make a difference in our society by becoming involved in my community".
